Our Story
Urban College began with a bold idea: that education should adapt to young people, not the other way around.
In 2022, we opened our doors with a clear purpose—to offer a high-quality, student-centred alternative for senior secondary students who were ready for something different. Our founding Year 10 students were the pioneers of this journey, seeking a learning space that valued who they were, how they learned, and where they wanted to go.
We listened.
What emerged was more than a school—it was a community built on trust, flexibility, and hope. From day one, our focus has been on connection: creating a place where students feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. We removed the barriers that too often get in the way of learning, replacing them with support, voice, and personalised pathways forward.
As we’ve grown, so has our vision. In 2024, we relocated to a new site to accommodate our expanding programs and student numbers. We welcomed new staff, developed flexible learning options, and introduced innovative supports like tutoring, hands-on learning, and our very own therapy dog, Bear. Every change was guided by the same principle that started it all: to shape better futures through holistic, relevant, and human-centred education.
Today, Urban College continues to evolve—but our purpose remains constant. We exist to help young people re-engage, refocus, and reimagine what their future can look like.

Governance Structure
Urban College is governed by a dedicated College Board that provides strategic direction, oversight, and accountability. Our governance model ensures that decisions are student-centred, transparent, and aligned with our vision and values.
The Board works closely with the Principal and leadership team to support the long-term sustainability, growth, and integrity of the College. This includes overseeing financial management, risk, policy, and compliance, while also championing innovation and equity in education.
