Enrolment Interview
A Personal and Supportive Step in the Enrolment Process
At Urban College, we believe that every young person deserves an education environment where they feel understood, supported, and inspired to learn. The Enrolment Interview is a key step in our process — designed to help both families and the College determine whether Urban College is the right fit for the student’s individual learning journey.
This meeting is not a test or formal assessment. Instead, it’s a relaxed and informative conversation that allows us to get to know the student, understand their needs, and ensure our approach aligns with their goals.
What to Expect at the Enrolment Interview
During the Enrolment Interview, families and students are invited to visit the campus for a personalised experience that typically includes:
- A tour of the campus — to see classrooms, facilities, and learning spaces in action
- Introductions to key staff members, including teachers and wellbeing team representatives
- An open discussion about the student’s academic background, personal interests, and any challenges they’ve faced in previous schooling
- Information about Urban College’s programs, learning pathways, and support services
This meeting is an opportunity for families to ask questions, share expectations, and gain a clear picture of what learning at Urban College looks like day to day.
Our Focus During the Interview
The main goal of the Enrolment Interview is to ensure that Urban College can provide the right environment and support for each student’s success. During the discussion, we explore:
- The student’s learning style and academic strengths
- Any wellbeing or engagement challenges that have affected previous schooling
- The kind of support and structure that helps the student thrive
- The student’s interests and future goals — whether academic, vocational, or personal
This holistic understanding helps us tailor each learning journey and, if the enrolment proceeds, forms the foundation of the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
A Chance to Connect and Ask Questions
For many families, the Enrolment Interview provides reassurance that Urban College offers something different — a calm, respectful, and inclusive environment focused on wellbeing and practical learning.
We encourage both students and parents or carers to come prepared with questions about our programs, expectations, and support systems. Our staff are always happy to explain how our alternative high school approach helps disengaged students re-engage with education.
What Happens Next
After the Enrolment Interview, the Head of Campus reviews the information discussed and follows up with the family to confirm the outcome. If the student is offered a place, the next steps include completing enrolment documentation and beginning the development of an Individual Education Plan.
Our aim is to make the process as transparent and supportive as possible — ensuring every student starts their Urban College journey with confidence and clarity.
