Wellbeing Day: The Power of Self-Care Term 3

This term, our Wellbeing Day placed a strong emphasis on the importance of self-care, wellbeing, and building positive connections within our school community.
The day began with a hearty BBQ breakfast, providing a chance for students and staff to gather together, share a meal, and set a positive tone for the day ahead. Following breakfast, students listened to guest speaker Arthur Bolkas, a criminologist who generously shared his personal journey. Arthur spoke openly about his struggles, his experience of imprisonment, and his path to recovery and renewal. He highlighted the importance of resilience, responsibility, and making positive choices for the future. His honesty and courage resonated deeply with students, who engaged by asking thoughtful questions and reflecting on the messages he shared. This powerful session was an inspiring way to begin the day.
After a shared pizza lunch, students moved into a variety of interactive afternoon sessions designed to promote different aspects of wellbeing. These included:
-
Harm minimisation workshop with YSAS, encouraging awareness and practical strategies for making safer choices.
-
A grounding walk in the fresh air, allowing students to slow down, connect with nature, and reset their energy.
-
Tounge drum meditation, offering a unique sound-based mindfulness experience.
-
Essential oil roller making, where students created their own calming blends to support relaxation and focus.
-
Mindfulness and Smiling Minds activities, giving students tools to manage stress and build self-awareness.
-
Bracelet making and positive affirmations, combining creativity with personal reflection.
-
A team-building obstacle course, filled with fun, collaboration, and prizes to celebrate effort and teamwork.
The balance of structured workshops, creative outlets, and physical activity ensured that students could engage in experiences that suited their interests and supported their wellbeing in different ways.
The day concluded with time for students to reflect on what they had learned and enjoyed. Many expressed appreciation for the chance to try something new, while others valued the opportunity to connect with their peers and take a break from routine.
Overall, Wellbeing Day was a meaningful reminder of the importance of looking after ourselves and each other. Through shared meals, inspiring stories, and practical wellbeing activities, our students experienced a day filled with connection, reflection, and positivity. It was a celebration of community and an investment in the wellbeing of every student.
